HINDSIGHT Certified

The mark that means the lens has been built, installed, and verified by HINDSIGHT.

HINDSIGHT makes a lens that lets the wearer see forward and rearward at the same time. The certification mark is applied to product HINDSIGHT has overseen end-to-end — from the lens itself, through installation in the frame, through to the finished product on the shelf.

What the lens does

Forward sight and rear-view, in the same lens.

A HINDSIGHT lens is semi-transparent and mirrored. Looked through from the front, it works as a premium optical lens — clear, light-managing, optically true. Looked at from behind the wearer's eye, it works as a mirror.

The wearer sees forward through the lens and rearward in it, in a proportion derived from the golden ratio: roughly three-quarters of the lens for forward vision, one quarter for the rear-view. No cameras. No batteries. No electronics.

It is a lens that does a job lenses have never done before. We call that job cognizance.

Forward vision

~72.36% of the lens.

Rear-view

~27.64% of the lens. Semi-transparent mirrored zone.

Power

Passive optics. No electronics.

The model

The rear-view-in-the-lens ingredient brand.

Some technologies are too important to belong to one product. They become an ingredient inside many.

MIPS adds rotational-impact protection inside helmets made by other brands. Gore-Tex adds a waterproof breathable membrane inside garments made by other brands. Intel went inside computers made by other companies.

HINDSIGHT does the same for rear-view awareness. The lens goes inside eyewear and activity products made by HINDSIGHT partners. The host brand stays the host brand. HINDSIGHT adds a function the product could not have on its own.

MIPS

Rotational-impact protection. 150M+ helmets. 900+ partner brands.

Gore-Tex

Waterproof breathable membrane. Inside shells, boots, gloves.

HINDSIGHT

Rear-view-in-the-lens optics. Inside eyewear and activity products.

The certification mark

Not a sticker. A verification.

The HINDSIGHT certification mark is not a logo a partner sticks on a box. It is the outcome of an engineering process HINDSIGHT runs itself.

The mirrored optical layer is engineered to tight tolerances. Every certified deployment is overseen by HINDSIGHT from installation through to inspection. We verify the lens performs to the engineering standard before the mark is applied — and apply the mark only when we are satisfied.

A certified product is a product HINDSIGHT has built, installed, inspected, and signed off. The mark is the receipt.

  • Installation oversight. HINDSIGHT supervises the build of every certified product from the optical layer outwards.
  • Build inspection. The mirrored zone, the optical surfaces, and the assembly are inspected before the product leaves the line.
  • Performance verification. The finished lens is tested against the engineering standard for forward sight and rear-view performance.
  • Mark applied last. The certification mark is only applied to product that has passed every stage.

The certified zone

The mirrored band carries the rear-view. Visible at arm's length. The mark on the temple confirms HINDSIGHT signed it off.

What optical partners gain

A new use case of eyewear. The first since sun lenses.

Eyewear, until now, has had two jobs: correct sight, or manage light. HINDSIGHT adds a third — cognizance. For an optical partner, that is a new product family to sell to an existing customer base.

A new product family

Cognizance sits alongside corrective and comfort as a third use case of eyewear. For the optical partner, it opens a shelf the brand has never had a SKU on.

A premium signal

The HINDSIGHT mark is a visible, defensible quality cue. The retail customer recognises ingredient marks — MIPS, Gore-Tex, Intel — as proof of engineered substance inside the host brand.

Independent research

Partner products are backed by research conducted at Edinburgh Napier University. The benefit is documented. The marketing has substance to point at.

No cannibalisation

HINDSIGHT does not replace a corrective or comfort SKU. It opens a new category alongside the existing range. New customer occasion, new margin.

What category partners gain

A new product line for cycling, e-mobility, and the activity categories that follow.

For a brand outside the optical category — in cycling, e-mobility, and the disciplines that follow — HINDSIGHT certified is a finished product to sell, not a lens to source. A high-margin SKU on a shelf the brand already owns.

A high-margin product line

Eyewear sells at margins the brand's core category often cannot match. Sold into an audience already buying from you, on a launch day the brand owns.

A safety story you can prove

Independent research conducted at Edinburgh Napier University. The performance gain is real and documented. You are not selling a feeling. You are selling a function.

A style story carried by a fashion partner

A design collaboration with a HINDSIGHT fashion partner already inside the family. A pairing the brand could not easily make on its own.

A finished product, certified

Co-branded, co-launched, sold through your channels under your name. The HINDSIGHT mark on the product is the engineering receipt.

Who we certify

Nine disciplines of movement.

HINDSIGHT certifies lenses engineered for environments where rear-view awareness changes outcomes. The current lens is built for cycling and e-mobility. Other disciplines follow as partner-built frames are released.

Brands working across more than one discipline are evaluated on a per-product basis. Certification is specific to the lens and the build, not the parent brand.

Partner enquiry

Start a conversation.

Optical, fashion, and activity brand enquiries all begin the same way: a short briefing call. We cover the product, the discipline, the channel, and the engineering requirements. If there is a fit, a certification scope follows.

Answers

The certification, explained.

What does HINDSIGHT certified mean?

It means HINDSIGHT has overseen the installation of the lens, inspected the build, and verified the optical performance against the engineering standard. The mark is applied only when HINDSIGHT is satisfied.

What is the HINDSIGHT lens?

A semi-transparent mirrored lens. Looked through from the front, it works as a premium optical lens. Looked at from behind the wearer's eye, it works as a mirror. The wearer sees forward through the lens and rearward in it. No cameras, no batteries, no electronics.

Is HINDSIGHT certified a licence?

No. HINDSIGHT supplies the lens to its partners and oversees the build. The certification mark confirms HINDSIGHT has inspected the finished product and verified the optical performance. The commercial relationship is supply, not licensing.

How is this different from MIPS or Gore-Tex?

The structural model is comparable. MIPS adds rotational-impact protection inside helmets made by other brands. Gore-Tex adds a waterproof breathable membrane inside garments made by other brands. HINDSIGHT adds rear-view-in-the-lens optics inside eyewear and activity products made by other brands.

Can any lens carry the HINDSIGHT mark?

No. The mark is applied only to lenses that have been engineered, installed, and verified under HINDSIGHT oversight. Unauthorised use of the mark is not permitted.

What does an optical partner gain?

A new use case of eyewear to sell to an existing customer base — cognizance. The first lens type since comfort and sun lenses that adds a new optical function, not a refinement of an existing one.

What does an activity-brand partner gain?

A new high-margin product line built around a use case competitors are not selling. A pro-safety story backed by independent research. A style story carried by a HINDSIGHT fashion partner. A finished product carrying the HINDSIGHT certification mark.

Which disciplines does the current lens cover?

The current HINDSIGHT lens is engineered for cycling and e-mobility. Additional disciplines follow as partner-built frames are released.
